SIX Expertise
Competence results from a blend of education and experience, while expertise is derived from having multiple competences. SIX hires individuals who are highly competent and invests in certifying them across various domains to develop its expertise in extreme logistics and emergency response.
Certification
We chose Australia as our main training ground because of the deep pool of professionals with experience operating across vast distances with minimal support. Consequently, there is a large, mature, and sophisticated sector in training and certifying remote emergency response capabilities. We think that Australia is the best place on Earth to have standardised certification. This is why all of our front-line staff have Australian certification in :
Parachute operations - a minimum of 500 documented jumps, but in many cases our operators greatly exceed this.
Ground crew operations - helipad management, aviation refuelling, and emergency management.
Occupational first aid, with a focus on mass casualty and major bleed intervention. Core staff may also be certified to administer restricted medicines and pain relief.
Experience
Not only must we be competent, but given where and when we work, we have to operate at a tier-1 level. For this reason, we don’t hire trainees. Each of our team members demonstrates a high level of competence in their field of operation, and a high level of self-investment before joining us. We also make a point of hiring people with diverse yet complementary skills and personalities. We are dependent on our teammates to keep us safe, as well as you, so we are very selective on who we will consider joining our team.
Training
The nature of our work means that there are periods when our staff are on standby, whether in the field or at the office. We use this time to bolster our skills by running drills, scenario analysis, simulations and upskilling complementary areas.
